Maximum tired width for older lemond zurich?

I recently picked up lemond zurich on here (but don't have the actual frame yet as a friend is getting it for me) and am planning how I'm going to put it together. I'm wondering what the maximum tire size I can put on it is. Has anyone figured this out? It's a 57 and I think it's late 90s based on the dropouts but don't know. Looking online some people seem to say 28s work, while others say 25 is as big as you can go. Thanks

I have a 2001 Ti Victoire with a carbon fork - not even close to getting 28s in front. With the right brakes, you might get close to 28s in back, but probably not.

I have a 2002 Zurich and have put 28mm tires on it...have used Rolly Polys and Schwalbe Marathon Racers.

Depends on tire and rim combo...

I can check mine if you want. I seem to remember running 28s on it with a Nashbar fork. Here's a 1998ish Zurich fork with a Michelin 28 on an Open Pro. Looks to be about 3mm clearance. You could probably run it, but you're bound to drag some pebbles through and scratch the bottom of the crown.

Thanks for the pic - looks like a little less clearance than I'd like but at least I can definitely fit a 25 or so on there. Once I get the frame I'll see how close to 28 I can push it.

I run 25s on my 1999 Zurich with no issues.

I have a 98 Zurich. I have run 28 continental gatorskins and ultra 3000s on the stock fork and same plus 28 Ruffy Tuffys on the rear. No clearance problem at all. Haven't tried the RT on front, still waiting for the Ultra to wear out! Any of those above on A23 rims are a match made in heaven.

When I was riding a 2000 Zurich, I could get a Ruffy Tuffy (28) to work if I opened the front skewer, let the axle ride down to the lawyer tabs, and then tighten the skewer again. Probably not the best idea I ever had, but it worked. 25s should be no problem.
