OT: handmade tools (axe)
This is a definitely a Rapha-esque video, which means good cinematography, editing & music.
The end result is, as they say, Epic. http://vimeo.com/37360333# |

likebikes--it does indeed look like the axe-making video went private in the last few minutes. odd.
either way, the chisel video is up on neeman website. just as good. |

Getting beyond the video issues...
From a user standpoint I've never understood tool snobs - the people who look down on others who use lesser tools. Judge the job, not the tool. That said, when tool making IS the job, the final product had better be damn nice.

If you are talking about the real blades, that's a CRKT Bear Claw which is loosely patterned off a Fred Perrin La Griffe (which itself is likely loosely patterned off of earlier skinners). Emerson was also making a Perrin La Griffe replica. Without getting into a lot of detail here, it's an extremely effective CQC knife for a number of reasons. If you meant the picture of the training knives, that's a Ginunting. It's a Filipino short sword that has a forward curved blade for cutting power similar to Kukris of the Gurkhas, a short double edge for back cuts, and a hawks bill handle for when things get, how should I say it......slippery. It can be used for clearing brush like a machete or Bolo and is also an official blade of the Philippine Marines. It's also the main blade in one of the systems I study and teach. I like it as much as the Barong, which I let someone barrow so no picture (see below). William |

I was mostly interested in the shape of the handle.
the double edged/back cuts seems well designed. the handles shape, not meant to rapidly change hand position or from hand to hand ?
