Another rider hit

Be careful out there. The rider was an acquaintance of ours, and I rode past this spot later in the afternoon...

That really sucks. I've ridden by that spot in the past. The stripe developments along frontage roads in our Western communities can be very hazardous places with all the folks turning in and out, concentrating on their errands etc.

Thoughts out to the family and all the cyclists in Durango.

God, that's terrible. At the very least it seems that the police have the charges right, whenever they charge her.

Doesn't make riding home tonight in the dark any easiser for me..

Maybe not on the charges . . .

Serious question . . . doesn't the "homicide" part of "vehicular homicide" imply intent? I thought if it happend but there was no provable intent then it would be manslaughter?

Thanks for posting this. Saw it yesterday and my heart skipped a beat. Very sad. It is difficult to comprehend how this driver could not see Betsy. I wish her a full and speedy recovery.

Also puts thoughts in my head about giving up the road bike...

Thumbs up

Praise God as the report didn't seem very positive for her recovery.

It's great to hear that Betsy's doing well.

We're really fortunate here to have very few negative encounters between bikes and cars, particularly given how many cyclists are around. After riding for may years in the Northeast, it seems like the cyclists here have most drivers trained (if not outnumbered).

I hope this incident doesn't set off any crazy reactions from either side...
