There is a small showing of photos by the great Timm Kolln (a local), and a stage at one end. Bike shop? That's not a bike shop. That's a post-modern street-level apartment with some dude's overpriced Fahrradkunst.

It was the Rapha T that gave it away.

I've never been to Berlin, nor had I ever heard of a giant peak in the middle of the city.

Beautiful shop, nice paint jobs on the bikes. And one more chance for someone to Rapha-bash. Timm Kolln authored a wonderful book for Rapha's press division.

Berlin is an odd city.

Graffitti everywhere (which to me signifies the end of Prussian discipline) and a mix of old (great), confused (modern german) and commie (ugly) architecture.

My mom is a Berliner and my uncle still lives there, same apartment his entire life-one of the few that survived WW2. Spent quite a bit of time there but rarely go now.

Berlin does have a hill of sorts-man made from WW2 rubble-but nothing like the lower photo's in the op.

But, despite the oddities, Berlin is a great city. Quite a bit going on and the night life..........

According to that blog, and architect has proposed the construction of a 100m high "mountain" at the Tempelhof (demolished airport) to foster "greenspace envy" from other European cities.

This makes me think that this architect needs to visit more European cities, because it will take more than a big pile of rubble to generate landscape envy from the likes of Paris or Vienna (ca. 50% parks by area).

Luckily, the idea is limited to a few Facebook friends . . .

Some make that connection in that Berliner=jelly donut.

If I remember my history, some anglo's who thought they knew German were critical of Kennedy's Ich bin win Berliner, thinking that he literally said I am a jelly donut.

It's "Villa Pasculli Berlino".
There are similar outfits in the US - bike boutiques.

I am frequently in Berlin - great city. In terms of art, music, theater likely the most vibrant place there is right now.

No plans to visit the Villa though.

So as a Berliner I have to put some facts on the table:
1. No, we do not have a mountain in the middle of the city. That picture is a response someone had to the question "what shall we do with this airport we just shut down?" That airport was Tempelhof (the target of the Luftbrücke) and no it was never built. Instead, we have a huge public park on the airport runway and green. A few years back one of the bike crews here organized an illegal cross race there in the middle of winter in 2 feet snow. It was Hella Fun.

2. That bike shop is real and is something of a fetish here. People actually spend the money there. It's odd I agree. Dropping insane amount of Euros on Aluminum frames...strange.

3. Steel or Ti is rarely seen here. People ride Alu or Carbon. It's so completely opposed to the West Coast style it'll make your head spin.

But it's hella fun to ride. Let me know if any of you come around.

OT but for others the Graffiti reflect the existence of bare minimum of cultural pluralism.
