Very well-executed, as always.

I'm curious how the handling is affected by switching between the two wheel sizes. I know the diameter is the same but the pneumatic trail from the big 650b tires must make a difference.

How do you approach the geometry on a bike like this? Is it designed for equal time on each set of wheels or is one set going to be used more often than the other?

Thanks!

We base the overall geometry of the frame skewed towards the wheel and tire size the customer feels will be the most used. The changes are small between what is optimal for either one so a slight nudge in the direction of the most used wheel/tire combo makes it so switching back and forth between wheelsets isn't a big difference in overall ride feel.

BB height is based on smallest tire intended to be used.

Head tube angle is adjusted so that the trail makes sense for the most used tire size and Pneumatic trail is certainly considered as it adds stability.

Switching between the 650b 47mm and 700c 30mm on my Firefly gives completely different rides - the 700c is racey and even a little twitchy, in a good way, while the 650b is rock solid and stable - but neither one feels like a compromise. I def feel like I can tell the difference due to pneumatic trail, especially when running the 650b at 30-35psi.

How you come up with designs for anodized finish?...beyond the standard Firefly marks.

Do clients provide the artwork, you, both?

Hey Steve,

Usually for custom designs customers give us some very general thoughts, ideas or inspirations for the graphics package they want and then we go from there. There are usually a few back-and-forth revisions until we land on something technically doable and in line with our and their aesthetics then we quote on that.

Can you share more info on this one? Those are 27.5 wheels, right? What is the overall geometry? How big can you go with a 700c tire? 35mm? What fork?

Those are 700c wheels. ENVE G23 Rims laced to Industry 9 Hubs. Tires on this bike (Compass Snoqualmie) are marked as 44mm but measure 45.5mm (actual) on these wide id rims.

Fork is the Parlee Gravel Fork. Which says it can accommodate up to 40mm tires but fits these 45.5mm tires just fine with a comfortable amount of room to spare.

One more question about this bike if you don’t mind. What is the color code for the painted portion?

Thanks,
Mike
