26.0 stem a tight fit
Just posting this as a check in before I do something stupid...
1"/26.0 Salsa stem, 26.0 Soma HWY One bars Was having trouble routing the stem around the bar bends, so did the flip the bolt and spread against a coin to open it up enough to get around (just the tiniest bit needed, it was really close). With the stem in place, it's a very tight fit against the bars as I'm adjusting them. As far as I can tell, the stem doesn't seem distorted around the bars at all, it's probably just tolerance discrepancies between the two parts, but just wanted to check since I've really only used removable faceplate stems before now... How snug should the stem/bar interface be? Am I worrying about nothing? |

So it's the Salsa stem chromoly tube with a pinch bolt at the bar
clamp? You are able to successfully spread the clamp a little bit and work the bar into place? If the pinch bolt is fully engaged with the clamp threads everything should be fine. The chromoly is surprisingly strong and pliable. (The dimensional tolerances are what they are using tubes.)

Is it a MTB stem?

26.0 stem a tight fit
I have the same stem and bar. I had to spread the clamp as you did to route the bar in. I didn't have any issues beyond that. The bolt should be tight enough so the bars won't rotate. I don't think there is a torque spec.

Generally speaking. ^ This. I have been spending time with plenty of Salsa quill's lately and this matches my experience. I was wondering at first if I had a mountain or road as well. Expect the 26.0 to be a tight fit requiring a little extra effort.

Thanks all, appreciate the info. Glad that I'm just being overly cautious!
