I love D.A.'s bikes. Stainless can lose some of its "rust" resistant properties when it is cold worked. So the heat of brazing will likely fall into cold working. I believe.

You live on the Vineyard; a couple weeks vacay in July would sure as hell say, "thanks, pal!"

You've already done Mr. Anderson a good turn by sharing your great experiences with him on this forum. I had never heard of him, and just spent the last fifteen minutes browsing his website looking at fancy bikes.

As for the gift, I wouldn't give him anything that can't be consumed in some way. The older I get, the more I dislike being given "stuff," particularly home furnishings that I would feel the need to display so as not to offend the gift giver (I can't believe some of the things my mother has around her house for exactly this reason). If I really want some particular thing, the odds are good I already have it, or it's too expensive for a normal person to give me as a gift.

If you know that Dave enjoys a drink on occasion then that would be an easy and nice thing to do. A gift certificate to a nice restaurant would work except it's not really any different than handing him cash. Come to think of it, I have a number of gift certificates in my glove box just waiting to be lost! Making a charitable contribution in his name sounds nice, especially if you're aware of a cause that's meaningful to him.

I would appreciate a hand-written thank you note as much or more than anything else mentioned here. It doesn't look like he includes testimonials on his website anywhere, or that might be another thing you could offer to provide.

I have lusted over dave's flickr gallery many times, love his stainless frames. Have stated a few times here that if I had that budget for a road frame, Anderson it would be.

I think a bottle of scotch or some nice wine is a great idea. High probability of being a successful gift.
