That's worth a read just to see how some folks would address a similar crack in brazing, if it's not a warranty covered issue. Hopefully it is.

E-Richie has a post about filing down a defect and stress risers that is interesting.

The Ritchey return Dept has been quick today. They offered to replace but... unfortunately they don't have any canti frames and may quit making them. Switching to disc would be a bite, especially with Campy, which don't work with most disc calipers. I'd need to get some Paul Klampers as well as a new set of Campy compatible CX wheels. Big bux. Basically what I could get a good used Ridley X-Fire frame for.
I asked them to look in their paint blem/seconds/no fork pile.

campy would work but would cost you a bit (specially if the bike has post mounts). You could go with potenza, I have the right shifter (would sell cheap), brand new I could sell for cheap so you would just need to buy a left at full price. Then the only other expensive thing would be the wheels.

or... could they get you a canti break away?

That is an easy fix for a reputable builder. Probably $100.

Its a long ride home out of the saddle.
I rode about 3miles out of the saddle with a failure once. It sucks much worse than you would think.

...plus a respray. No one around here paints frames for less than $250.
Not getting it powdered, BTDT.

Sux.

I have a frame in hand right now that is allegedly 27.2 and a 27.2 Zipp SL has at least 1mm of back n' forth room in it - while a cheap carbon post almost fills it out and a Thomson is somewhere in between. Looks like I'll be using the Chipotle-lid shim to make sure it's snugged up.

This should be a good warning to us all to pay attention to how far things are pinching as they get tight.

Yep. If you need carbon paste to keep it from slipping....

Looks like I'm going to cut my losses and get the frame replaced. I love this frame but can't really afford any of the options. I'll see how I feel about getting new wheels and Klampers when it gets here.

not the best situation, but it's nice to hear Ritchey is stepping up and giving you a new frame, and they replied in very short order. that's, quite frankly, much better than i thought you were going to do when i initially read this.

i also have to say, i'm totally bummed out to hear that they are not going to make this frame in canti version anymore. that's a real shame.

Customer service was spot on. Best I've ever dealt with. I also hate the whole disc only thing. Cantis have always worked perfectly for me.

Sell the disc frameset and buy another canti on closeout...

i still think someone broke the VS bike with a screwdriver. Now we have seen in the OP in this thread why you would do that, undersized ritchey seatposts.

The crack in the VS bike is in a totally different place. I don't think it's clear that the bike shown in this thread has a crack, but if it does it needs to be remedied in a totally different manner. The crack in the VS bike was being held together by the binder bolt.
