Centaur vs Chorus 11s Rear Derailleur

Has anyone used a Centaur? Is Chorus and its Revolution design worth the extra money?

The price is so attractive, I'm considering a medium cage Centaur RD for my gravel bike. Besides material differences and corresponding weights, the design is more traditional and probably more like pre 2014 RDs(?).

'Worth' is a big word..will it make the bike work better? No..it's a little lighter, a bit more fragile(carbon)..

And the Centaur will work fine with pre 2014 shifters, right? I doubted I would have an easy time justifying Chorus. I think I'll go with a Centaur, especially since it will see heavy use in the dirt and dust of dirt roads around here. Thanks.

What year Centaur?...thru 2010, essentially an older design 10s, doesn't work well at all with 11s shifters...2011 Centaur rear der became ala 11s and worked fine with 2009+ gumby
11s shifters. But if latest 2017/8 11s Centaur, yup, that'll work fine.

OP....You are saying the last model Centaur 10's RD will work OK with 11's shifters over a 11's cassette?

I would be using 2012 or so Chorus shifters with a 2018 Centaur RD.

I am so so so tempted to get the Centaur 11 group - I have a Shimano wheelset and cantis, so no need for the brakes or cassette..

Can I use a Shimano chain with the Centaur crank?

Would my Shimano 5800 derailleurs work with Campagnolo shifters? is the pull of the shifters and derailleurs different? I understand that one can use a Shimano 11speed cassette/wheelset on Campy and vice versa..but can you now mix shifters and derailleurs?

Yes, 2011 model changed so it mimicked the 11s stuff..2010 was essentially a 2008 and older rear der and that stuff wasn't good with 11s shifters.

I should mention, 2011 10s rear ders and 11s rear ders work great with older, Campag 10s shifters..they 'overshift' a wee bit but I have built more than a few rigs with 2008 and older Campag 10s shifters using a modern 11s rear der and it works very well.
