I see my mate BdaGhisallo has been here, thinking along much the same lines as I.
I was going to suggest Time RXS or Keywin for the size of the cleat (both big, flat and good for avoiding hotspots). RXS has good rotational float. It may seem counter-intuitive, but Keywin may be worth trying, because they have about the best engagement and retention you can find. If your foot moves this can be critical. Importantly, Keywins cleat and pedal body lock together; there is no float. The float comes from the pedal bodies ability to pivot on the pedal spindle. It can be constrained by adding wedges within the pedal body. It sounds curious yet feels entirely natural. Good luck with your quest.
