Help identify these older Campy chainrings
We're in the process of purging and I went thru my bike shelves looking for stuff to toss, sell, etc. I found 3 Campy chainrings that I might sell and want to make sure I identify them correctly. I've done some research and would like verification of what I've found. Consider it a test for you Campy guys.
Ring #1 52T, 135mm BCD, 74g. This thing is gorgeous. The stop pin is aligned with the crank arm and has the female part of the bolt inserted. It says 52-AS on it. I believe it's a C-Record ring because of the way the pin is aligned with the arm. This one has the stop pin aligned between the crank arms and says - 53/39 - . Maybe Chorus from early 90's? Ring #3 44T, 144mm BCD, 79g. I think this came off a Masi I bought in the late 70's that had Nuovo Record on it. The finish is shinier than the others. Probably NR? Why are all other chainrings in the world so ghastly ugly?
I'd almost buy a 144BCD crank just so I could use that 44. Absolutely beautiful. |

The 1st one with the back nut in the hole is from a record C crankset... 135 bcd.
Second one, I do agree maybe a chorus or CdJ The 3rd one is super old... if the teeth are thick I could think is an old track chainring, but looks like is a road one, nr maybe? Last edited by ultraman6970; 02-18-2018 at 07:22 PM. |

Back in the very early 90's, even the lowest-level Xenon crankset had quality rings cut from thick stock that would be hard to differentiate from all but the highest level parts.

Not unusual to see a NR 144 BCD crank running 44-52 rings. Lots of old 144 BCD chain rings around.....I just discovered an old 50 tooth in my box. 42's, 44's. 45's and my first P 13 Schwinn Paramount came with 49-52 front NR rings.

#1 C-Record made from about 1984 thru 1994(no pickup pins-that started in 1995)
#2 Chorus/Athena made from 1995 thru 1999 on aluminum cranks. Pickup pins and ramps...they changed in 2000 with 10s. $3 Nuovo Record inner.
