i don't know for sure, but i suspect the weave is largely a cosmetic layer, with all the work being done in the depths of the machine.

Braided Carbon Structure is our term for the weaving of fibres into complex bi-directional ‘socks.’ These tubes are easy to tune with different materials – TIME currently choses from 16 filaments to perfectly tailor our layups.

This process allows something that is unheard of in the cycling world; continuous, unbroken fibres that run the full length of a structure. It’s easy to imagine the integrity of many layers of uninterrupted woven fibres running through a steerer tube and being integrated into a fork crown and even down the fork legs with minimal overlapping joints. Contrast this with standard prepreg layup where the edge of every carbon sheet is a potential weakness.

I have read a lot of great comments about Time carbon frames.

Seeing how many of Time models have "press fit" bottom brackets and how some press fit bottom bracket designs may end up "creaking" after a while, has anyone experienced any creaking on their Time frames?

I think that time is one of the manufacturers that do pressfit "right".

I haven't had the bike long enough to comment on whether a creak might arrive later in the BB. Nothing to date of course.

Interesting, but the shop owner, who is a very experienced mechanic and works on a lot of high end bikes, says that Time bikes have the tightest tolerances of any that he's worked on. He's blown away by the frames and loved building this up.

And he's not a guy who sells a lot of these bikes. He's only sold a few. But he just thinks that the manufacturing is better than any carbon bike he's worked on. I'm guessing that bodes well for the BB.

That's what I was (clumsily) trying to get at: that beneath that pretty "twill" layer on the outside are several more layers which have been chosen in order to tune the ride qualities they're trying to achieve. If you watch their "Perfection in every strand" video you can see what appears to be unidirectional carbon being woven into a tube (around 0:45), and you can see those unidirectional socks being used for what appear to be the chainstay (1:13) and top tube (1:15), which are then covered by a more traditional looking weave. and later (4:48) what is possibly a largely cosmetic layer being put in place in the seat tube junction with a heat gun. But when all is complete, all those layers become a single unit as the resin is injected. So while there may be a "twill" looking layer visible, somewhere under it are other layers providing the majority of the strength and ride characteristics.

That is a great photo - I think her bearings are gonna be shot. Talk about a creaky BB!
