2004 Pegoretti Fina Estampa - 59

Just landed this one from the oft-maligned TPC.. and it's a beauty. The frameset is in exceptional condition with just a few chips here and there - but hey, it's aloominium, so no harm done. I'll be stripping it down and rebuilding shortly, most likely with Chorus 12. This being the same size as Lavi's new Love #3 should make for some fun across-the-years comparisons.

I almost pulled the trigger on that one. Went back to look at it one more time - and it was gone. Website just had a banner saying: "Clean Was Here..."

Man, you are off to a roaring start to '23. This may be a record even for you.

To be fair.. I let it sit there for weeks while I made up my mind - and finally caved because I had an expiring coupon and a hefty gift-card balance. You had your chance

It's a bit of a parts-bin hodge podge - the wheels are in great shape (tanks that they are) and so are the levers, ders, and tires - and the drivetrain has very little use - but mostly it's a hodge-podge of parts that'll end up donated to the co-op beyond those bits.

My arbitrarily-defined fiscal year has a couple months left in it - and then I'm done..

I had a Fina in 2001. I got the itch for a Peg after reading an article about the Pegoretti brothers in Cycle Sport if I recall correctly. In any event, it was a stiff, solid race machine. My 59cm was 1635 grams. I was also riding a Waterford R2200 at the time that was just a few ounces heavier, and I ultimately preferred the feel of the steel pipes. If you like to stomp, you will love this Peg. Nice score!

Good feedback thanks..looks like the previous version Pegs frames in alloy where at good 15-20% lighter than the steel equivalent.

Modern MxxxxxO and Love #3 (no Scadium tubing) are pretty much the same based on my quick research

Congrats on the Fina Clean! I really enjoyed mine and didn't find it harsh in any way - especially considering those big aluminum tubes.

Well hello there..

Usually I’d finish remodeling the house before I invite people over but it was dry and I couldn’t help myself.

So out I went on a 39/53 and 11-23 to ride the ridiculously pitchy neighborhood I’m in. 50mins and 1600ft of climbing later, I cried uncle.. satisfied with a 45-sec PR on a 12-min climb. Big gears do hurt more - but the hurt also means going faster -

Reactions? Nothing so scientific as Lavi’s trials.. so I can’t really properly compare the Fina Estampa to the Marcelo ..but I can say that when you stomp, it jumps - and that I love the stock 59 geometry and the way these bikes handle.

Anyway, put on your hard-hats and bring your imagination. The next time you see it you might not recognize much but the bones:

LLL
