Brooks Cambium users - creaking?
I bought a couple Cambium C17 saddles about 3 years ago, and ended up getting rid of them because the creaking would drive me crazy. Tried all the tricks on the internet (grease the bolts, rails, etc.) but they still creaked. I think it was the sides flexing and rubbing the rails. It probably didn't help that I am a bigger guy so probably flexed the saddle more than others.
Does anyone know if they have done anything to address this issue? If yes, I am thinking about giving one a try again. Last edited by fa63; 02-16-2019 at 04:03 PM. |

Try it with a different seatpost? The only time either of my C13s have creaked was when paired with a Fizik post. Not expected of course, as they are from the same parent company.

I was an early adopter and liked how the saddle rides but I had exactly the same experience with the creaking--absolutely drove me nuts and I also tried everything. I do have one that does not seem to creak but I need to try it again in order to confirm that it's quiet, probably on my trainer bike. I think they changed the thing a bit after the earlier versions. Frustrating waste of money, especially because they ride pretty nicely.

I think the carbon C13 models have a different construction than the metal railed versions. Maybe I should try the carbon version, but then I will also need a new seatpost...

Did you disconnect the rails at the front and fill that nose section with grease? That helped one of mine.

Sure did, didn't seem to help in my case.

Had several that freaked, one or 2 that did not. Lately I’ve been on the carbon version, C13 but the wider carved model. So far so good.

only incidental creaking but i have had cracked rubber on a c15 and utter failure of carbon rails on a c13 necessitating standing to pedal the last six or seven miles home (i could handle it no problemo because of all the singlespeed mtb i ride )... another c13 I have is cracking on the carbon support beneath the rivets. i have a third c13 destined for failure when my current one dies. A shame because the abovementioned are the most comfy for my tuckus and best looking saddles ever made. Reliable and long lasting, well... not really. Each began to fail barely outside the warranty period.
I ceased my indignation, vowing not to let Brooks rob my joy, and simply resolved to switch to something else when i trash my last two c13s. not sure what will replace it though. Last edited by zambenini; 02-17-2019 at 02:49 PM. |

Dang...they are very cool-looking saddles though.
I was thinking they might work well with my Sella Italia SLR-accustomed body. Curious to hear more about Brooks C13 user experiences. |

YMMV, though, and I think jtbadge has had better luck. I will admit to a lot of honest miles on all of mine. I also like the saddle well enough I might do the fool me twice thing and just try again, maybe with a C15 all weather and metal rails or maybe a C13 again. They are allegedly getting lighter but who knows?

I am a Clyde and have a C17 without any creaking. It's probably one of the earlier ones too that some are having issues with.
