Just to give y'all some perspective 1 week ago I did the Tuesday night rubber mallet ride after work.
24.2 miles, 963' elevation. I was chasing a very fast lanky cat 2 and hanging on for dear life. I was on my Moots Compact SL with 28 spoke handbuilts. Today, I did the exact same loop; 24.2 miles, 1101' elevation. The difference in elevation was in a counter clockwise, vs clockwise direction respectively. I rode the Peg. It was extremely windy tonight and I was solo; no one to draft. I had expected to come in with a significantly slower time then I had last week. I was 4 mins slower. I thought I would be 14 mins slower as I was fighting the wind solo, plus I had a very draining day at work and I'm tired. None of this means a hill of beans, but it does reinforce what I had thought about the Peg the 1st time I rode it. It likes to steamroll. It's not a lollygagger. Likes to be under torque and rolling. The puzzling thing is how well it responds to out of the saddle efforts; I would think a bike that steamrolls like it does would be lethargic when you jump on it but that is not the case. The Marcelo jumps when you jump. It's not the lightest steel bike around, but somehow I don't think Dario cares about weight. Iffin' you get the chance to own one in your life do it. I'll try to take some better pics over the weekend. |

Great story. Congratulations. Finding THE bike is always worth the wait.
On a side note, I knew the bike that Justin had for sale. Would have been mine but the previous owner hadn’t decide to sell yet. Then I got a duende. Wondered if it stayed with the family.

Welp,
I finally got it dialed. I almost considered selling it cuz I couldn't get my fit where I wanted it. After 3 different stems I'm there. A -12 degree Extralite in 110mm. I sure didn't want to spend $200 on a stem but the -17 was just a tad too much in the drops and the -8 and -10 wasn't enough. Once dialed this thing really came to life, a different bike underneath me. It really likes the seated torque on a climb, more so than any other bike I've ridden. It just powers up climbs from the saddle. Descends like it's on rails and it's supper smooth in the corners. This one is a keeper for me and I'm hoping for tons of hard and happy miles on it in the future. The final setup in the oh so faux pas NDS photo. ![]() |
