Keith pal, I am not very good in giving ride report but I will do my best.

It's the lightest bike I have ridden so far. About 15 Ibs.

My frame of reference or comparison is with the other carbon bike I have, Cyfac Absolu.

The Cyfac is a full on race bike. It can do everything well.

The first time I was able to really put some serious miles/tests on the cervelo, I remembered getting off the bike and thinking to myself. "Huh, interesting. This is 90% Cyfac at 1/5 of the price. Not a bad deal,"

It seems to me like the designers of cervelo R3 have intentionally built in comfort zone into the bike and they were apparent to me. It's "soft" in all the right places to make it an awesome all-day bike. It doesn't beat you up, in fact, it carasses you as you ride. Ok, I will stop there before it gets all erotic, but you get my point. It's definitely stiff enough for the 25-30 mph high torque paceline flying at full speed, no problem there.

One other aspect of it is, it may or may not appeal to everyone in terms of aesthetics with its sloping top tube, squarish-looking downtube, big fat bottom bracket area. It's designed on a computer, what do you expect?
I like it. I like to mix things up, both traditional and the modern.

In a sense, I broke my own rule, not to have duplicates within my collection. It matches the Cyfac the closest in terms of "intended use". I think what I will do is take it out whenever the group I ride with is a bit more mellow, still fast, but doesn't require me to bring my sharpest tool like the Cyfac.

Talking about not duplicating function, I think I just committed the same sin again yesterday when adding this newest member to the team.

I just finished building it yesterday and haven't got the chance to ride it yet and probably won't till it gets a bit warmer over the weekend. I can already tell it's going to ride very similar to the taylor and the Rivendell, both designed to perform optimally with 32-35mm tires. Oh well, having multiple options is a good thing.

Weisan -- Thanks for the information. The Cervelo's have always intrigued me and almost bought one a while back. I know that they had some problems with cracking frames a while back, and a friend of mine went through three frames and finally gave up.

Nice Hampsten

my local peloton went cervello crazy a number of years back. one of the lbs's started carrying them and marketing them hard. a bunch of people bought them and literally loved the ride - but they almost all broke in some form or another. i got the impression cervello, at least in the earlier days really pushed the envelope in terms of weight and performance - at the expense of durability. i dont know if they fixed all that, but i know it turned off a whole bunch of people.

Thanks for the info, this issue is what has kept me from purchasing one. I would certainly hope they have resolved this problem by now.

I won't worry too much about this. Every major brands have reports or incidents of breakage. Besides, I ride on cracked frames all the time.

Was gifted this frame and these older 808s today. Should be a fun budget minded build.

It was cold as hell today so I stayed indoors all day, sat by the fireplace, took out the knitting needle and started knitting...all done now, used up what is my last pair of older SL23 v1. pacenti rims. Found a stash of them at the co-op a couple of years ago, apparently donated from a bike shop that has closed for business, never had any issue with them except the occasional difficulty with mounting certain tires, has more to do with technique sometimes. These wheels are ready to go into service as soon as the 28mm gravel king tires from cicli pal come in the mall.

I highly recommend Roger Musson's wheelbuilding book (online pdf version). This is how I got started, and truth be told, this is all I use to build my first pair of wheels and subsequently it's practice, practice, practice.

‘17 Trek Procaliber 9.8SL w SID RL, Bonty Kovee Carbon Wheels, XO1 1x w XG1175 10-42, Level TLM brakes, Bonty XXX bar and post, RXL stem, and saddle...and a few other bits/bobs.

If this doesn’t scratch my dirt itch, not sure anything will...

Oh, and this one came from the Big n Tall FB classifieds same as my Emonda SLR.

Love that gold chainring. Every bike needs one small gold bit on there.

You saying this is your first MTB? Bike like that is a race rocket. (You may be too) but all I'm saying if you don't like mtb give a less stallion-like ride a chance. Fatter tires and droppers are super fun and can really scratch the itch.
