Campy 10 speed shifters with 11 speed RD

Will an 11 speed Campy RD function with 10 speed Campy shifters as a 10 speed RD? I'd be tickled pink if, say, an 11 speed Potenza RD would work ok with my 10 speed cassette and 10 speed Campy shifters.

AFAIK it will. Old Potatoe will chime in in the early A.M. and confirm.

Ultra doesn't read closely. OP has mentioned this many times through the years. Here's a thread from WW: https://weightweenies.starbike.com/f...ic.php?t=81901

RD must be pre-2015, right? So Potenza wouldn’t work.

Campy, in all of their wisdom, changed cable pull, so half of 11 speed stuff works with 10 speed but doesn’t work with the rest of 11 speed gear.

Well that's perfect then. I'd been looking for a new medium cage kit for my 10 speed Record RD, and had, uhm, had no luck. NOS 10 speed Record or Chorus RD's are insanely expensive right now, but an 11 speed Potenza RD isn't so bad.

Thanks!

Yes it will, done that more than once BUT with Chorus/Record/SR..Potenza has some odd spring return issues, never tried that.

Early 11 Athena will work perfectly. Don't believe later 11's have same ratio of lever movement and RD movement. Especially 2015 and later. E bay usually has Athena new.

And of course....you can make any thing sorta work. Below explains he differences.

http://www.velotech-cycling.ltd.uk/c...shtml#comp-mec Good info here from a UK Campy service center. Explains the spring differences.

Does the 11 speed RD model year make a difference as suggest above?

Can you elaborate o the odd spring return issues with the Potenza RD?

Thanks!

The potenza RD might hesitate on the shifts to smaller cogs. I have a new one with early model 11 speed shifters that don't pull as much cable as the 2015 and newer models. It works with a mod to the cable clamp bolt. I grind it down to the root of the threads, where it contacts the cable. This shortens the lever arm slightly and increases the total travel.

I'll have more 11 speed parts up for sale soon, including early model 11 speed shifters and the potenza RD.

@OldPotatoe and @Dave:

Do you know if Campagnolo is able to supply 10 speed derailleur cages? I could just as easily replace the cage on my Record derailleur. I'm looking to put a medium cage on. Medium cage or new RD. Those are my choices.
