Thanks all. I've always been interested in TB 14's. I'm on Belgiums as my custom build. Also ride Boras and Neutrons. I'm just itching for a new set. Struggling between Archetypes and the TB's. Reasonably hilly where I ride, and will be on a steel Rock Lobster.

I've had both, and the TBs are definitely less snappy and more comfortable. Great for big slick tires on dirt.

If I was building a new set of custom road wheels today and price was no object I'd go 24/28 new Open Pro Exalith to Phil Wood hubs and Sapim CX-Rays

And a variation on those... High flange Records with 35mm Paselas, built by Old Potatoe.

which Boras? personally, I love mid-depth carbon wheels with a steel bike. gives it a little something extra in the realm of stiffness/responsiveness. so the 35's would be great. any deeper is not fun to ride on hilly terrain.

just a thought, since it sounds like you already have various wheels, including some that are similar to what everyone else is suggesting...

Why is there no love for Mavic rims any more? Are they just considered passé now?

Their focus is on wheel systems, so the stand alone rims don't get much focus. Their factory wheels are pretty rad, though.

Noises eyelets, wedge that comes loose and the reluctance of Mavic to even acknowledge the problem, let alone fix it...but only been 2 DECADES.. so why fit it now?
Lots of far better rims and rim companies out there.

Reasonable people can disagree. I bought my Gios new in '78, which was the only year they did white panels on down and seat tube but clear panel on the top. When I had Joe Bell repaint it I chose to revert to the older DT and ST clear panel design, just prefer it. I like my chrome fork but the painted one above is also very nice.

I need to update that thread because post-Eroica I've done a restomod Chorus 10 build. Returning to the original thread, yesterday I picked up some new custom built wheels, fairly close to Angry's reco above:

Polished Record hubs
Polished Archetype rims
Sapim D-Light spokes on the front, Race on the rear DS and Lasers on the NDS; Wheelsmith brass nipples
Threw Schwalbe One 23s on as they were handy, will likely switch to Vittoria Corsa 25 gumwalls (or maybe even 28s)

very light, super durable and lively combination here.

I have almost that wheelset:

Ultegra rear hub
Formula 'classic style' front hub

Rides nicely. Hard to beat for the $$
