Training App for Kurt Kinetic
Just getting started in cycling and trying to get ready for winter with a trainer. Bought a Kurt Kinetic with the Kurt sensor. I have tried the Kurt app but have had nothing but problems with the app. Any recommendations for an app with training plans that isn't terribly expensive every month?

Don't spend any more time on that Kinetic app. Generally, the best apps are not made by the hardware (trainer) companies.
Check Zwift, Trainerroad, or Sufferfest. All have different types of experiences. Depends what you are looking for. I think most if not all have free trials. PM me if you would like a free month of Trainerroad. I have a code I could send. |

I got one of the button sensors for my rock n roll trainer several years ago. It would connect with their app maybe 25% of the time, then stopped. Like their trainer though.

Jettison the Kurt app, and never look back! Had all kinds of problems using their smart unit. Acknowledged issues with Android (was using Traineroad) interface. They were disinterested in resolving. I am sticking with their fluid trainer (good quality) and my existing power meter set ups (pedals on one bike, crank on TT bike). But to answer your question, Traineroad for a solid platform, Swift for interaction.

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping to keep it sub $10/month but it doesn't look like that's going to happen and I don't have the budget for a power meter at this point. Any reviews/thoughts on Rouvy since it's the only one that meets my budget goals at this point?

My wife and I have had the Kurt fluid trainer (dumb trainer) with the power button/pod for 4 years or so. The free Kinetic Fit app works seamlessly and perfectly 98% of time (when it doesn't it is usually time for a new battery). We upload the data to Training Peaks but use our own training regimens rather than follow any paid for plan (mostly 45-60 minutes of sweet spot while watching Netflix or old bike races). You're all in with no monthly fee for ~$400.
Perhaps, we have been lucky. -Mike |

I use Rouvy. It works fine. Lots of routes all over the world. May not be the best for group rides (like Swift) but I'm not interested in that. You can upload your completed rides to sites like Ride With GPS.

What never seems to be discussed is dumb trainers with smart bicycles, e.g. power pedals, wheels or crank. Sign up to Zwift and you're good, and saved a grand. You don't get the feedback (eg resistance on hills) but, having tried both, I don't really miss it.
