Yea I had no doubt it happens just did not think it justified a sticker on every wheel! Darn lawyers (except those that are part of Paceline)

go read the warnings on the instructions of any basic household appliance.
lets see, do not use hairdryer while taking a bath. etc, seriously, until I read that exhaust was melting carbon wheels that risk would never have occurred to me. |

Apparently Thule makes a heat shield for this situation...who knew?
Thule 52291 Heat Shield The exhausts on my vehicle are in the rear bumper...sort of angled out. I didn't have any trouble over the summer on a trip on which I took my bike, but I may not have used the mount closest to the vehicle. I need to investigate more.......

Heck I've been to club rides with noobs and seen the skewer open and just tightened by hand as much as possible on the screw side. I may be a retro grouch because I only got one set of carbon wheels (I won them in a raffle). Thanks for posting the warning. I'm also assuming if you got carbon wheels they are going to be on a bike I don't want on the back of a car anyway. Either in or on top. I don't want to give the idiot texting behind me the chance of destroying my bike. Ride safe, BamBam Last edited by bambam; 03-04-2021 at 10:15 AM. |

You know those warnings on the visors inside cars? Maybe they need one that says " Warning: Do not drive into a garage with a bike on top of the car."

I know more people that have done this than have burned through their wheels!

That's a nice PSA.
I think it's actually one of those things that people just don't really think about. For humor, this is one I remember from years ago. Surprisingly, it looks like a lot of people caught it as I googled for the image. |

Hey big spender! Does a 20 boot any better than lower denominations? Or perhaps you were making a statement about Jackson's politics.

the only thing that will guarantee you do not drive into the garage with a bike on the roof is to put a ladder or garbage can in the spot where your car would go into.

"If you're still using a trunk rack....don't buy these carbon wheels"
Maybe that's what the sticker should say |

You have to be worried about trees, drive thru's, low clearance, etc. as well. That's why my preference is in the Auto. PSA: I had a friend that always hung a object from this rearview mirror when he had bikes on his roof. |
