Zipp / potential upgrade?

Hey everyone

Bought a set of zipps pre owned
Is there any way to change out these for different ones?

Which hubs are compatible with the 18/24 spokes?

I hear Chris king and dt Swiss makes some but not sure which models

Thanks

Not worth changing anything unless you're personally having problems IMO. I don't think DT does 18h. White Ind does and they make excellent hubs, but again I wouldn't consider unless I had issues with the Zipp hubs.

Getting your wheels relaced to Chris King hubs is IMO one of the least beneficial ways to spend a grand on your bike.

Don't replace them until you have issues. Then Zipp/SRAM will warranty them with free 1-2 day shipping and likely upgrade your wheel set to something with nicer hubs. They've done it in the past with recall/warranty issues.

Gotcha. White Ind T11 in 18h. Probably 250-300$ for a front rebuild with that hub. No need to do the rear. Rear hubs are expensive.

If your hub is part of a recall it's my understanding that they don't need proof of purchase and will do their best to make it right, but I'm not sure. It's worth pursuing.

I already tried.

My version is the V9 and isn’t part of the recall.

Could any LBS rebuild a front wheel?

Yep! For carbon, if you don't have a regular shop I'd probably go to a shop that has deals with carbon wheels on a regular basis. They might hit you with 20$ or so more for labor than a mid level shop but you want it done right. I don't know where you're located but for the most part any decent shop should be able to order you a White Ind hub. They're backed out 3-4 weeks as of last week (which isn't bad compared to other brands right now!)

Can you post a photo of the hub you've got?

We've got most generations of Zipp hubs at work from doing upgrades

So here’s my issue.

The clinch nut (used for bearing preload) screw on the front hub is completely stripped. It cannot be removed unless it’s drilled out meaning the clinch nut needs to be replaced.

I called zipp customer service and they literally do not offer the clinch nut for the 88 hub. Nor do they offer a new hub. I looked all over the internet for days.

So 1 tiny little stripped screw has rendered the entire wheel useless. The only fix would be to

a. drill the screw / replace the hub
B. Replace the entire wheel

What an nightmare.

Is there any way to change out these for different ones? I don’t want to go through the recall I’d rather just replace / upgrade the hubs with a different brand.

Which hubs are compatible with the 18/24 spokes?

They’re the v9 hubs without the flange ring under the clinch nut

Is the screw so stripped that an EZ out can’t remove it?

Getting some oil in the threads of that bolt definitely won’t hurt, maybe a little heat on the cinch nut itself. Make it as easy as possible for the EZ out.
Common to see corroded front hubs from trainer ride sweat dripping. Some folks have downright toxic sweat.
