The death of rock legends just reinforces how old some of us are getting.

Speaking of legends, The Who has a new album dropping in November. They released the first single, "Ball and Chain," last week.

It's not vintage Townshend, but it's as relative as ever.

Ric Ocasek was a very tall and thin man who married a beautiful Sports Illustrated cover girl. I liked one of his last hits a lot when I was 3 or 4 years old. It was called Shake It Up. If you listen to that song on vinyl, there's a little break that sounds different every time. Don't know how they did that with 80s technology.

No, the Cars lead singer was Ben Orr, who died of pancreatic cancer somewhere around 2000. IIRC.

The Cars were a great way to avoid disco music in the late 70's and early 80's.

They shared singing rolls. Some songs were Ric and some were Ben.

As someone pointed out somewhere else on the internets, Ric Ocasek was older than Pete Townshend. Some bands like The Who got huge when they were teenagers, while The Cars were in their 30s. "New Wave" whatever that really was was in fact a space to be filled between punk and the interminable 70s album rock acts.
