Just read that he may have been 70 (It is unclear what age Mr. Ocasek (pronounced oh-CASS-ek) was. According to some public records and previous articles, he was 70, other reporting suggests that he may have been 75.)

Sad. The Cars rocked.

The death of rock legends just reinforces how old some of us are getting.

Speaking of legends, The Who has a new album dropping in November. They released the first single, "Ball and Chain," last week.

It's not vintage Townshend, but it's as relative as ever.

Ric Ocasek was a very tall and thin man who married a beautiful Sports Illustrated cover girl. I liked one of his last hits a lot when I was 3 or 4 years old. It was called Shake It Up. If you listen to that song on vinyl, there's a little break that sounds different every time. Don't know how they did that with 80s technology.

Hi B!

I always liked Candy-o, but I don’t think he was the singer on that one.

No, the Cars lead singer was Ben Orr, who died of pancreatic cancer somewhere around 2000. IIRC.

The Cars were a great way to avoid disco music in the late 70's and early 80's.

Hi B!
Very eloquent in a "Just the Facts Ma'am" type of way …

Loved the Cars. Some of my favorite music to listen to back when I skateboarded as much as possible.

Quite the list.
Surprised they left off Farrokh Bulsara (aka Freddie Mercury) from their list of those that are already gone.

They shared singing rolls. Some songs were Ric and some were Ben.
I think Ric sang more.

And Banned in DC, too! Ric Ocasek gets a lot of respect for his production work. Interesting that, on the back of Rock for Light, his name is in the biggest type. Like Danko Jones said in a tweet last night, discovering this musical connection was world changing.

Ocasek was older than Townshend

As someone pointed out somewhere else on the internets, Ric Ocasek was older than Pete Townshend. Some bands like The Who got huge when they were teenagers, while The Cars were in their 30s. "New Wave" whatever that really was was in fact a space to be filled between punk and the interminable 70s album rock acts.
