Eddy Merckx Premium Frame?

Anyone ever ride a Merckx Premium aluminum (Easton scandium) frame? If yes, what did you think of it? Thanks in advance!

Hi
One of the best bikes I ever owned.
So much so I had 3 in different paint scenes.
The handling and ride was awesome but not too light and of course Max tire size 25mm measured.
It was my first pick for my second ride across country.
There was headset issues if you didn’t keep it tight and cable adjusters on the down tubes ,If you didn’t keep them, greased they would seize up.
The only thing I regret is, I wanted the one Bike I couldn’t get the Kodak edition.
Signed

The Premium is the same frame as the Team SC. Just a few years newer. And you will not find a bad review of the Team SC anywhere.

Wish I could've found one in my size a decade ago. Not sure I would spring for one now, as they're going on 20 years old, at the least.

I’ve had stellar experience with a Team SC except for the OG fork. Highly recommend putting on a modern fork which is what I did (a 43mm Enve 2.0 for my size 59 frame).

Agree! Can't give a bad review to a bike like this.

I’ve owned a Team SC since new in 2004. It remains one of my all time favorite bikes and still gets a lot of miles. I have no problems with 28mm tires measured true (Corsas). Some have loose headset issues as noted. I’ve been lucky there. Rode my first D2R2 in 2006 on it (only the 100k) before I knew how rough the roads might be. Worked great actually and we rolled in at 4hr40min total time including a quick espresso at Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters as we were flagging a bit, so not too shabby.

For the right price I’d snap it up, put on a nice 11spd rim brake group and let it rip. It’s a mash-up of parts now from over the last 20yrs. In current state:

I had a Team SC in the same color, but one size smaller. If I didn't get old I would still have it.

I also rode D2R2 in 2006 on a Merckx MXL. I did the 180. Oh, boy, I could only shoehorn 28mm tires in mine too. I somehow also convinced myself that I could manage the hills with a 39 x 27 low. Youth (relatively speaking) got me up all the hills without walking, and intelligence got me to return the following year on a proper machine!

Team SC rider here. Nice bike, heavy / FUGLY original fork. Frame is proper light for this size but can´t compare to a CAAD 5 (both are made in the early 2000´s) in terms of stability. Second, the EM paint chips off easily and the Campy Inset is not easy to find when it must be replaced. However, these frames can be found at bargain prices. Mine was ~€200,-- including shipping from Belgium.
I am playing with the idea to have it repainted... today, it´s a wallhanger.

The Premiums are fairly rare. There are definitely more SCs around and even those aren't super common. I have a lotto paint scheme SC and like others have stated about their SCs, it rides fantastic.

I love Bittersweet's SC - great story!

I built up an " NOS " MERCKX PREMIUM recently

Built up with either , period correct " NOS " #campagnolo RECORD 10 components and 3rd GEN ZONDA wheelset

Made with the same EASTON Scandium 7000 Aluminum tubeset and EASTON EC90 fork .

Recently swapped out MERCKX seatpost for a full Carbon ITM seatpost with 15mm setback vs 25mm

Rides characteristics are very similar to Team SC

The Rear triangle is shaped differently too.

STUNNING, riding, looking , RIG🏁🏁

It ticks all the right boxes related to performance, handling and comfort parameters
