I wonder if that means the chain prematurely wore itself out by riding over the very used cassette.

No, it would mean the used cassette wore the chain faster though ...

So is this Campagnolo 2017 11-speed cassette brochure, showing only "F" (2.2mm) spacers
(for both 11-zz and 12-zz cassettes, whereas previous years brochures show both "F" and "R" spacers for 11-speed cassettes),
incorrect then?

Edit: and here is the page from the Campagnolo 2013 11-speed cassette brochure, showing both "F" (2.2mm) and "R" (2.3mm) spacers.

The 'G' spacer has little 'feet' that are installed 'into' the cogset spider..These can break, I have them, BTW-

OK, a correction..2017 Centaur from 2017 uses all 'F' spacers..all the others use "F" and "G"..
so

Current/recent 11V cassette spacers are indeed all the same thickness: "F" (2.2mm thick).
Current Centaur and perhaps the ones labeled 'Campagnolo 11s'...

The OPs cogset is SR...

The R/SR cassettes do have more material machined from the m'blocs.

So I swapped a friend's cassette on the bike and it works fine.

Upon taking the cassette apart, I noticed something about the spacers. They are labeled 2.2 but also numbered 1-4.

I broke one of the spacers (#3) and sometime from the forum was nice enough to send me one. The one they sent was a #2. So I have 1,2,2,4. Does this matter? I assume they are all the same but why would they number them?

Worst case: the difference between a 2.2 and a 2.3 mm spacer is the width of a hair.

The only things that matter regarding the spacers are thickness/type (2.2 or 2.3 marked) and the correct location in the sprocket sequence.

The single digit numbers with no decimal following (ie just 1, 2, 4) are of no import at all to the end user; they only identify (for Campagnolo qc apparently) the mold number of a multi-impression mold machine. You can disregard those numbers.

Not sure which cassette you've taken apart (your own SR cassette or your friend's cassette). Regardless, your picture shows four F (ie, 2.2mm) spacers but no G (ie, 2.3mm) spacer. Sometimes the single G spacer remains attached to the outboard side of the smaller triplet. You'll need a total of five spacers, including one G spacer, to correctly assemble an SR, Record or Chorus 11-speed cassette.
