I really had no idea how much I would like 650b. It took quite a few rides on varying terrain for me to truly appreciate what it offers.

This bike keeps impressing with 650b...

Very rugged terrain with steeps and this geo feels maybe a touch quick in the handling...

However -- that's what mountain bikes are for.

Yes, it's important to do some testing and trying out different wheel sizes before you decide which way to go and to trust your instincts.

When I acquired my current spectrum Ti bike used from a couple years ago, it had spent the majority of its 20+ life (built in 2003) as a 700c wheel bike but when I tried on 650b wheel size for the bigger (fatter) tires, it just felt right and so that's what I did on my latest trip out where I will be riding mostly on gravel, I swapped out the 700c wheels and put in 650b tire/wheel, everything works out.

Thank you for commenting.

Any idea what the geometry of your Spectrum is? (HA / BB drop / Fork offset) ?

And what tire size have you settled on for 650b?

Did you have the disc brake mounts added to your spectrum? That's pretty neat

172.5

I have to be careful not to pedal while leaning on corners or else there's the occasional pedal strike.

yes, I added a "homemade" disc tab to the rear.
