Advice on power meters - Garmin vs Favero

Happy holidays.

Wondering what the wisdom of Paceliners is on Garmin Vector 3s vs Favero Assioma pedals? I have read the various online reviews which seem to favour the Garmin.. at least now after the initial problems have been ironed out. I also figure that Garmin may release a Vector 4 in 2020 so considering the single sided version for now while I try them out.

Any advice and recommendations appreciated (or indeed for an alternative choice!).

Thanks.

Why are you wanting to go pedal based? Used SRMs can be found in the $500 range and they are fantastic.

Basically ease of switching between bikes. I have one built up with Campag SR and another with Ultegra Di2 with Specialized S-Works cranks. But not fully decided... what model of SRM do you recommend?

I have the precursor to the Assioma - the BePro- single sided. I’ve been happy with it but I’m not a heavy power meter user. I haven’t used any others so I don’t have a basis for comparison.

I got pedal based because I also have a bunch of bikes. The pedals come with a little gauge to set up a calibration marker on the crank. I asked for extra markers when I bought it and they kindly obliged. Once you get the hang of the process, it takes about 5-10 minutes to switch to another bike. You then calibrate it by riding steady cadence, flat surface (rare around where I live) for 30 seconds, so popping it on a trainer is the easiest way to do that.

I went through the same choice about a year ago and chose the Assiomas over the Garmin based on rechargeability over batteries and my poor experience with Garmin products generally. Really easy to switch the Assiomas from one bike to the next. Calibration is a breeze. Takes 30 seconds. Great battery life. Very satisfied overall.

Super, thank you. The Assioma seems like a very good bet. Any experience on the practical utility of the dual sided over the single? I am sure it’s nice to see L/R split but in practice struggling to really see how I would use this.
