Story on carbon hand cycles

I pitched and produced a story on Rio Paralympic triathlete Krige Schabort and the carbon handcycle he rides for Wired and wanted to share it with you PL peeps. My friend Chris Peterson has been been building hand cycles and wheel chairs for over 25 years and is doing some amazing things with carbon fiber

Cool story, thanks for sharing. I volunteer/ride with a group called Sportable http://www.sportable.org, and they have a hand cycling program that just finished up for the summer. I was constantly amazed each week, as my wimpy arms couldn't do what they do... heck sometimes my legs had a hard time keeping up. It was a fun way to help out and the people who come generally aren't competitive athletes, but most just wanting to try things and stay active. Many of the athletes use borrowed handcycles from Sportable, or the VA (who brings a truckload every week), but a couple have received grants through the Kelly Brush foundation mentioned below.

Great story!

My family does a charity ride for an organization called the Kelly Brush Foundation every year. Kelly was injured while skiing for Middlebury College and now her foundation raises money to provide hand cycles and adaptive equipment to people living with paralysis (along with awareness and working together with ski clubs/teams to prevent similar types of injuries to skiers). Listening to the stories and seeing the athletes compete is truly inspirational.

I encourage everyone to check out the foundation. This year they raised over $450,000 at their signature ride/event in Middlebury, Vermont.
