Pack of sugar and Peanut butter smeared on a playing card. Doh. Good enough for Bart...Good enough for me.

I ate two of those today. I used to like them, but in today's heat they tasted pretty awful.

Dark chocolate covered salted pretzels seems to work the best for me.

most rides where I have to worry about food are pretty long, like 15 hours and longer. Nothing works from beginning to end. Some things have been eliminated, like Pepsi. Last Pepsi I drank on a ride was eliminated in the opposite direction than it was ingested. I really can't take Clif bars any more.
I use a 6:1 mix of carbo to protein in my water bottle, but in warm weather that starts to be a burden because it goes bad after a few hours. 3 hours max for unpasteurized whey-based versions like Perpetuum. I think I got sick from some of this on Saturday, but it was hard to tell. If my stomach feels really bad, I eat a banana or potato chips. I can only eat so many bananas per ride, after 3 they don't go down too well. I seem to have trouble with fructose. When I'm not riding, my digestive system isn't nearly as picky. It's annoying. |

Usually I like chewy stuff. Haribo gummies of all flavors. I really like the gold and green at the same time. Let them just sit in your cheek until they're soft and yummy. Stinger gummies are really good too. Not a big fan of clif gummies, or many other brands. I do like the mentioned macadamia flavor bars, but I prefer Lara bars. Basically just dates with other flavors mashed in. For liquids I like honey or maple syrup over any kind of gel. My all time favorite is dried fruits and beef jerky! Typically I make own. Occasionally I'll mix in nuts. Mostly nuts just make for an excellent off the bike meal that doesn't need to be cooked. Walnuts and dates is one of the finest evening meals coupled with a bottle San. Pellegrino.... Anyways, I saw the sushi idea in another one of these threads and have yet to try it. I'm just not sure how to carry it? Sounds like a great idea.

Early in a ride, I like Rip Van Waffles, then switch to Shot Blocks for quick energy, and finally Cliff Bars when I start feeling a little hungry for "real(er)" food. You can get all of these at Whole Foods for pretty decent prices relative to individual purchases elsewhere.
Have also been playing around with Fig Bars (raspberry) that have become addictive after being served them on an American Airlines flight. |

Peanut butter, jam, and banana. Fresh ground peanut butter on both sides, thin layer of good jam, and a nanner, all on Dave's Killer Bread. Lots of salt added. I love 'em! Even better with a coke or a Nuun cola. Oh, and zip lock bags with a slider were made just for this purpose. |

For fast/intense rides, I make up my own gel...more of a liquid really. Fill a gel flask 2/3 of the way with honey, add a pinch of sea salt, fill up the rest with water and shake until mixed. Works really well, tastes good, goes down easy, no added stuff that will rot your gut, cheap.
