So confused....I thought OP snagged this and was going to ride it?
Such a cool bike. The eBay listing says that's a 57? Looks smaller from the pics. Regardless of the who, where and whatever its provenance (or intended provenance), still such a cool rig. I don't get too fired up about bikes but this one just speaks to me in a Flavor Fav gold teeth cool factor kind of way! Quote:

Thanks! I'm up in Winooski but ride with friends down in Norwich sometimes - The Wombats - also I like to do the Prouty whenever I can.

Definitely not a winter bike - the spray comes right through the frame into your face, also a total hassle to clean, and carbon tracks tend to suck in the wet, this is definitely a fair weather ride.

Yes that's my listing. I can't really afford to sit on this much of an investment till spring. Also it was as much of an art project as anything else. I'm very much hoping I get lucky on a dry couple days and/or it sticks around till spring so I can get some rides in on it but if someone wants it in the meantime I'd sell it and move onto the next project. Definitely not gonna give it a salt bath, that's what titanium is for

Thanks! Yeah the prior owner said it was a 56 (my size) but it's got a 59 ETT - I checked that about 5 times because it doesn't look that long but I think the crazy tubes are kind of an optical illusion. SOH isn't bad. With the offset post and 120 stem (only ones I could find with the Gold accents) it's super long, leaving me very raked out - another reason I already posted it - but it's race bike stiff, so perhaps appropriate for crit style rides. It's kind of like a Lamborgini - garish, uncomfortable, but crazy fast.

wow, 59? that's a stretch indeed.
i really dig this bike. the gold, the silver parts, just an enjoyable & fun rig to look at. i'd ride that every sunday if it was in the stable. what is the gold finish? paint? Quote:

I've been trying to figure out how they got this finish. I 95% sure that it's just paintwork (super thick), I think it would have more texture to it if it were gold leaf but I'm really not sure how they did it. I've never seen anything like it.

It's probably an automotive finish. There is a chrome-like paint that does similar effect. Several years ago I saw it on a Jay Leno's garage video on YouTube, he was so excited about it because it enabled the finish to get on parts that needed it, but couldn't get proper chrome plating because of environmental limitations in California. I forget who makes it, but it's a really cool process. It looks almost like water getting sprayed on it. I wanted to get carbon bike parts done in that finish but by the time I'd be paying someone to disassemble the parts, pay to have it sprayed (assuming I could find someone to do it) then have parts reassembled with hopefully no damage.....sounded like too much brain damage.

Looks AMAZING but I think I'd be too paranoid to ride it even on a nice sunny day.
You may not even get much riding in since it would probably draw so much attention and questions (and selfies). |
