Generous amount of super chunky peanut butter and raw honey on a slice (preferably an end) of toasted Dave's Killer Bread and I'm good all morning.

My typical rides these days are usually only 1.5-2 hours. So, before my morning rides, I'll usually have a couple of cups of coffee and maybe a banana. I don't bother eating anything before rides that are later in the day.

Normally toast and peanut butter works well as does porridge. Coffee is a must. |

On days when I anticipate a longer or harder ride then my preferred meal is overnight oats with almond milk, dried cranberries, blueberries, a touch of maple syrup. chia seeds, small bit of Bob's Red Mill protein powder, and some flax meal. I usually have a small piece of toast with that.
Other days when it just a regular ride, nothing or else a piece of toast with a bit of homemade --- not too sweet -- cherry, strawberry, or fig jam. |

Having a well-ordered household* we have a waffle iron. A waffle with real maple syrup a bit of butter and three medium or two large eggs and I'm good for the next fifty miles.

1/2 cup steel cut oats, some turmeric, cinnamon, and other stuff that my wife mixed up, along with some frozen berries and raisins--usually blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries. The berries melt while I do some dead bugs and back extensions or whatever. When I'm done with that, I pour over some soy milk. (I'm a 33 mile RT commuter. So this breakfast is a weekday and ride day pre-ride meal.)

Four Scrambled eggs with cheese or four hard boiled eggs slices up with cheese. I do not get hungry on rides.

Lately I have a new favorite thing for long weekend rides. The night before the ride, I stop by a local Asian food place and get a monstrous plate of pork fried rice. I eat half of it that night, and then the other half in the morning right before the ride. I'm usually set if I keep the blast furnace going with gels and shotblocks.
I've also found that 3-4 beers the night before a race tends to do me just right. It blocks the nerves and anxiety well enough to fall right to sleep, and the liquid carbs have me feeling energetic in the morning. |
