There are other tires that don't do this. I'd punt.

yeah I messaged bike tires direct asking if I can get a refund or should I just throw em in the trash. I don't have time for this crap, this has cost me at least 2 hours or more of my life I will not get back. Not worth it.

I hope so too. I think this might just be from the rim/tire combo, or maybe I got some bad tires but regardless, I never had to spend more than 10 minutes mounting a tire (non tubeless, tubeless can suck some times but even then lets say 20 minutes). I don't want this kind of tire in my life.

Let us know how your experience goes.

I agree. The only “bad” tires I’ve had out of the box over the years that I can remember were 2 Conti 4000s with bad beads and a compass 650x48 with a bad bead. I’ll give an update - to be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever owned a challenge tire.

That is where mine were headed, I would not sell these to anyone.

Also just from trying to mount this tire, they are coming unthreaded around the beads, I can pull threads away, maybe this is fine but never seen something like it.

Bike Tires Direct price matched Excel Sports' $32 each price for GravelKings. With their "slick" version now in a 32 and 38 size, no real reason to put up with all of the issues with Strada Biancas anymore. It's a shame Challenge didn't actually improve their game over their old models when creating the new tubeless ready tires.

I have some specialized ones coming through just because the GKs 32s are not tubeless but BTD gave me some store credit so I may just get some 38mm GKs as well. Can't wait till they release the 35mm ones.

So unfortunate, its across their entire line - poor qc/dimensional control.

Challenge tire install complaints seem to be as old as time but does anyone have any experience of actually riding these new TLR models?
I have actually managed to always have good luck with the handmade supple cased Challenge tires, which I think are now called their “pro” models. I’m TLR curious so assuming I get lucky and they mount easy and no QC issues, how does the ride compare for these vulcanized tires?
I’m in inner turmoil between the Challenge TLR, Challenge Pro, or Compass for my 2019 bike refreshes.

I got a set of the Gravel Grinder TLR from BTD last fall and FWIW they were easy to install tubeless and ride well. They are on a set of WTB Chris Cross rims (19mm id) where they measure a little over 39mm wide. I also had the tubed version which was trouble free. Both versions seem to wear fast though.

I've also heard that the Strada Bianche were hard to install in the non tubeless version as well. It's unfortunate that their QC appears to be a challenge.
