Hampsten Il Mostro Tranquillo

Finally got the one built up and ridden this morning after some delays and have to say Steve really nailed it. I had been debating an "all-road" bike versus a spring classics type race bike on 32s and ended up chatting with Steve at HampCo and when he asked me what would cover my 90% of riding and it was the classics style bike with room for 700x32 plus the bonus option of 650b 38's for gravelish days. (spoiler I got both, this and the Mosaic)

Request was for a "bike that could be raced at Paris-Roubaix" and it's spot on, I'm not in great shape right now but I felt like I was riding it this morning. It just jumps forward under power, while staying really comfortable on the rough Westchester pavement. Only 20miles on it so far but excited for more.

Build comes in around 17 lbs ready to ride and has:
-Red AXS group - 50/37 rings with an 10-33 cassette
-HED Ardennes Pro wheels with Veloflex 32s (for now)
-Deda Superleggera bar/stem/post, painted to match
-Fabric ALM Saddle
-Look Keo Blade Ti pedals
-Arundel cages

To come: some Zipp 353s for spring...

Dialed into its final form with the 353s, bars dropped 1cm to my planned fit, and a straight post painted from Steve. This monster is up there with my No22 in just putting a huge smile on my face every time I ride it. It just ghosts along to use a rowing phrase.

Looks great.
It looks like CF but am questing fillet brazed steel. The joints looks so clean and blend in cleanly with the tubes.
Enjoy the ride.

My TIG welded steel Strada Bianca cannot be easily distinguished from a filet brazed frame. Actually I can’t detect the welds at all. I do think my frame was made by Max Kullaway (R.I.P.).

Really, really nice! I didn't think Steve was doing disc il mostro's in carbon. Looks great and love the paint scheme too!

My Strongs are like that. The powder coat filling in the beads and flowing out helps. But the radius is smaller that fillet.

Nice! I'm curious too, who built the frame.
