It's is shame seeing all of those good parts go to waste.

I could use a mk6 grille and wouldn't mind a set (or two) of those wheels.

I have some 16in steel wheels setting here if anyone wants to make a trade before their alloys go to waste...

So that others may chuckle as I grumble, I submit the following. We had stowed the VW at my parents' house because they live in the 'burbs and have more space. A month or so ago, I was out and tried to start it and the battery was dead, naturally. Regular jumper cables didn't work. Had AAA jump me and it started right up. OK. So in planning to turn the car in today, I alotted time to get out to my folks', for AAA to come, for the jump, for the drive. Well, AAA took an hour to come, took 45 minutes to get the car to start, including the portable jumper, jumpers attached to the Truck's battery, and a third battery via my jumper cables. Got to the dealer an hour late and so have to wait till they finish with the person who had the next app't. Joy.

Here's why I chose the direct deposit.

In case there was any change to the amount due, we could still go ahead with the buyback. If it were a check, and the amount due was less than originally indicated, the buyback would be delayed.

FWIW, direct deposit - in various scenarios, including salary, peer-to-peer and VW buyback - has always worked well for me.

Dave, who said he did his buyback on a Friday afternoon and had the money in his bank account on Tuesday morning which was 2 business days as promised

The emissions from buses, garbage trucks, trains, and old diesel autos are quite a bit higher that the TDIs. That's not to offer excuses for VW's actions, its just an observation on relative health risks.

Direct deposit for me was only a couple of days, but they took 3 weeks and a few phone calls to pay off my credit union. Expect to continue to stay on top of them if you have a loan on the car. I only knew when my credit union sent me a letter about dropping insurance in my car.

Apologies if this has been asked. I am the leasee of a 2015 GSW, which is up in August 2018. I would like to keep the car as long as possible without forfeiting any payback (roughly $3,300). I have the offer letter in my possession, waiting to be notarized with either the early trade in option or emissions mod option...

Can the early trade in be, like, one month before the lease is up?

Should I do the emissions mod, and only pocket 2/3 of the cash for now, and wait for the remaining 1/3 in the second mod?

I already called the dealer and they straight up said they could not get me in a gas model of the same car for the same or lower monthly payment, so that option is out the window.

Thanks,

JPS

You have until September of 2018 to make your claim.

CNN has an article today about POTUS possibly loosening the CAFE mileage and emission standards for cars.

Then this (new) VW nightmare occurred to me: after all this TDI emission buyback stuff happens, US Govt loosens emission standards so much that the TDI engine would actually meet the relaxed (higher emission level) standard.

Talk about irony. If that happens, the uproar could be real interesting.

As far as I know, CAFE has very little to do with NOx. The TDI crushes today's CAFE standards.

I had the check handed to me at the appointment. Quickest.
