My analog watches are in the safe, above which hang a 1972 Italian Masi GC and a lovely old Peter Mooney. Neither get any use anymore, so, yes they are analogous for me.

I'm not into watches at all but this link was on Service Course Cycle Studio's Facebook page today.

Lugs, and or having them at the ends of a tube, don't equate to anything. They're small objects used for a joining process. The analogy with mechanical watches doesn't translate because all watches were once wind-ups. Just like many industrial made bicycles once had lugs and were made by hand (either en masse at a factory or one at a time by a maker.)
If there was a way to delineate between bicycle frames with lugs and the level of assembly to which they're made, maybe that could be a bracket analogous with independent watchmakers, those in the AHCI for example.

Actually, I did not, though south of Del Mar is like the far side of the world to me. I'll have to check it out sometime. I try to tell myself (well, mainly my wife), that the bike collection makes more sense than a watch collection since I don't wear a watch.

They're not. Even the oldest and most reputable cycling brands are fly-by-night operations compared to some of the oldest and most well-regarded watch companies.
