Chainline question
Long story short- I need a new chainring for my MTB. I run Praxis cranks which are "native" boost spacing and spec a 0mm offset ring for the proper chainline on a boost rear-end.
I can save a whole pile of money (and time) by switching to a 3mm offset chainring as a the replacement. I know the ring will fit and will not cause any clearance problems, but I'm not sure how adversely it will affect my shifting. FWIW- due to the trails I ride, I spend 80-90% of my pedaling time in the 3 biggest cogs, and very rarely shift much past mid cassette on descents (I ride steep and rowdy trails with very boring 15-20% grade fire road approaches and then never have to pedal on the way down... until its time to turn around and head back up the fire road again). I expect it will make the shifts into the smallest cogs (heaviest gears) less quick, but will that be the only adverse side effect of running a 3mm more inboard chainline? |
