Gene Doping in Sports

Given the interest on this forum in doping and competition, here is my short presentation, "The Regulation of Gene Doping in Sports," which I gave last Thursday at the ASU Governance of Emerging Technologies & Sciences conference. It is also attached to my LinkedIn profile. Let me know what you think about the subject.

Very interesting. I wrote a paper on doping in cycling, technology, and the “spirit of sport” rationale advanced by the WADC in law school. IMO, the problem is inherently baked-in to sporting competition.

I agree. Did you notice the survey results?

Interesting. I think for these new doping modalities (like the secret motors or gene doping), there has to be an extremely high level of punishment to keep deterrence high (risk of being caught multiplied by the consequence of being caught), and prevent the modality from getting a foothold.

Nice presentation Fit in Lance and Taylor Phinney.

Can you inhibit myostatin selectively, i.e. just in the legs? Would be a boon to cyclists. And yes, when I’m 85, I’d seriously consider taking a performance enhancer with death to follow in 5 years.

LOL! I know that myostatin can be inhibited by medication as well as gene manipulation. I don't know about muscle specific application.

Myostatin in concert with resistance exercise makes muscles big. So take the meds and do some squats to target the lower body. Not sure if it’s an endurance PED.

Yes, for a short presentation I had to start somewhere.
