I’m about 25 miles south of the Lionshead fire. The AQI has been 500+ all day.

We are prepared to evacuate, which may be overly cautious but better that than the other way. Among the other essentials, we have a chainsaw in the truck. My 2013 Meivici will be the last item packed if we have to go.

The destruction of our forests is devastating. The destruction of some tiny communities is overwhelming.

Knuck, knuck.

Not even sure how updated this is:

This massive burn is the Riverside Fire. We are just under a mile inside the Level 3 evacuation red zone upper left. It is about 10+ miles to the edge burn approx. [I think] The 20-30 MPH winds from the SW for a few day before yesterday's subsiding to single digits made wildfire territory 10x worse that ever before anywhere near this direction I am told.

Man....the sky and air here is yellow.....I can see the ash floating in the air.

"This is among the meteorological worst case scenarios for bringing in dense smoke into Seattle and Western Washington. First of all, we're essentially surrounded by wildfire smoke on three sides -- B.C. Fires to the north, Central and Eastern Washington wildfires to the east and the still raging fires in Northern California to the south. Even the Maple Fire burning in the Olympics is giving localized smoke from the west."

I’ve never lived in the Hudson Valley, but I started checking out homes there yesterday.

Good call. I think at some point in the near future parts of the west coast may be untenable.

I'm from Elmira NY and the homes there are basically free when compared to Portland housing. Sadly there are no job as you might expect.

I’m retired and live in the tiny town of Sisters (after living in Bend for several years). Most places in the US seem inexpensive compared to the West Coast! My friends in the Midwest are always shocked at home prices here. But I love this area too much to leave in the foreseeable future . . .

I love the West, straight up, and lived out there from '91 to '20 but am a little chagrined to admit that I'm happy to be in New England at this exact moment.

Stay safe out there, brothers and sisters.

Hey all. Hoping all my PACNW friends are safe at home or safely evacuated! We evacuated our home as well on Friday. I live just outside over Beavercreek in Oregon city, which can be seen in the map above. We are right on the edge of stage 2 and stage 3. The fires were only 6 miles from our home and would rather be safe than sorry. So, we calmly packed up as much as we could fit into my work van and went up to Vancouver, WA to stay with my mom. Looks like the winds have stayed rather calm over night, which means the fires have slowed their movement. I've never had to deal with any sort of natural disaster, so this has been very scary for me and my family. I'm pretty sure that my house will be safe, but so many families have already had their homes taken. My heart goes out to our community and those who have been effected.

I don't know how much truth there is to this, but I've heard from many sources that Police have caught multiple people who have either attempted or been successful in starting fires between OR and WA. While I know there are sick people in this world, it angers and saddens me to think there are people that can be so deliberate in causing pain and suffering to others.

I'm hoping to see a clearing to go back home here soon. Living with my mom again is driving me nutts!

Yes, despicable behavior but hardly representative of humanity.

Much like the thread about someone creating a FB group to counter bikers on the road....

They don't represent the majority. Period.
