Shipping to Hawaii?
Am selling a frame on Ebay and keep getting an offer from Hawaii - problem is I have a reasonable flat rate listed ($50)- but the bikeflights cost to Hawaii is near $200 ! - any reasonable priced way to ship to Hawaii?

USPS. You can get the box small enough and the weight low enough for USPS. But it's a mess right now with shipping times.

On my eBay listings, I state that my quoted shipping rate is for contiguous 48 states and that Alaska and Hawaii will be higher. I don't ship anywhere else.
Be clear with the prospective purchaser that you will charge him shipping at cost versus your flat rate.

I think you'd have to pack (as safely and compactly as possible), measure and weigh the box, then check shipping costs on USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc. USPS might charge dimensional weight on a large package like a frame, and/or limit the shipping options based on size, like Express only?
Another route would be to edit your listing. In the Shipping Details section, if you select one of the "FedEx" (ShipBikes) or "UPS"(Bikeflights) service options, it allows you to choose to add a surcharge for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. You can enter the amount of the surcharge you will charge on that particular item. Whenever I list something large (like a bike, wheels, whatever) where I will be using Shipbikes (used to use Bikeflights), I use their estimator and a random zip code from those states to get a good estimate as to how much to add on as a surcharge. Also, this way any bidder/buyer can see that they are not getting the "inexpensive" flat rate shipping like would be applicable to the lower 48. Last edited by WNC rider; 07-12-2022 at 02:06 PM. |
