Portland Bound

Breckenridge was amazing and now picking up and headed to Portland.

A first visit for me getting to this part of the country and looking for recommendations...

Where to rent a bike places to ride and any other recommendations.

I’m staying at a place near the Waterfront Park Trail.

Thanks!

Oregon or Maine?

If Oregon....what type of riding would you like to do? Distance, climbing, destinations, views, etc. That will help guide recommendations on rides and where to rent a bike..

Hopefully it's Maine. Portland Oregon is a dump.

Reports of our demise are greatly exaggerated

I personally don't recommend anyone traveling here (or anywhere) in these times unless for essential business reasons - but if someone is coming here, I'll at least try to help make the trip enjoyable - so long as you agree to wear a mask, wash your hands, and tip the service industry heavily.

I avoid waterfront park on my bike unless middle day/week and ride wearing a mask.

Seem not a good time to visit PDX for sure...

If you do come, suggest STRONGLY you stay outta downtown west of that area [if staying near waterfront park PDX/OR] at all costs after dusk.

All of this - Portland is a fine place to be but traveling for pleasure during a pandemic is ludicrous.

And so long as you are OK dodging 100s of folks a day that refuse to do most of that.

I'd mention I got ran into the grass on my skinny tire bike, off the edge of 'my side' by a elec rental scooter from hell that needed the entire path coming in the opposite direction. And that was during week/day on the Water Front stupid wide path. I was headed to the bike lane on the main drag...

I do NOT wanna be triaged and taken to hospital more now that usual.

Is there a location outside of downtown that is safe, and still accessible to some great riding?

Yes, plenty. There are a few areas to avoid around downtown, but plenty to enjoy in the hills and beyond. I can provide some interesting options (w coffee stops) once I know preferences - not everyone seeks out the same riding experience..

I regognize the run up Cornell, and I should recognize the other two but drawing a blank at the moment.

Hello All...

Thanks for the feedback and here are some of the answers to the questions.

My travels are work related and if I’m traveling for more than a couple of days I look to rent a bike to see the area.

Breckenridge was a mix of both of work and helping a friend move.

It’s Oregon
Road Bike

Of course wearing a mask and hand washing is something I’m diligent about...and always a good reminder.

One ride I do a lot when staying downtown Portland waterfront is out to Sauvie Island (12 miles), and then all around the island. Entirely flat, but a pleasant ride.

None of the protesters are going assault you, as implied by some people here. Unless you're wearing a blue lives matter shirt or something. The cops might gas you though, they do that.

Can't imagine any place is renting bikes right now, but I could be wrong. There is a pandemic.
