Sprinters are gladiators ...any post-race analysis, rules of engagement, penalties, disqualifications are quite moot. Yesterday's victim is tomorrow's aggressor and vice versa. They are all going after the same thing.

I don't profess to know the rules perfectly, but as far as I can tell the difference is that in the Sagan/Cav incident the space wasn't there for Cav. In this case, there was plenty of space and the GV deliberately edged right... not OK.

Agree with the comments about consistent application of rules, as uncomfortable as that may be to race juries.
And doesn't Groenewegen have some history of this kind of stuff? |

latest from DQS
"Our rider was involved in a crash that took place inside the final meters of the Tour de Pologneās opening stage. Fabio Jakobsenās situation is serious but at the moment he is stable. Diagnostic test didnāt reveal brain or spinal injury, but because of the gravity of his multiple injuries he is still kept in a comatose condition and has to remain closely monitored in the following days at the WojewĆ³dzki Szpital in Katowice. Further information will be made available in the course of the coming hours. Meanwhile, we would like to thank you for your heartwarming support." |

1) A downhill sprint finish?
2) In a video taken from behind the finish line facing the riders, you can see the course actually narrows as they approach the finish line by probably 2-3 feet funneling them into an even narrower space. 3) The barriers appear to be completely worthless, they should not explode upon impact. You would think we could design some barriers that might offer just a bit of protection, or at the very least not completely disintegrate. But hey, look at all that pretty advertising! The entire finishing sprint design seems incredibly dangerous, it is unfortunate that the cyclist union does absolutely nothing to protect these riders. |

I think heās just outraged. His previous tweet was: ā They have to put this guy of @TeamJumbo in jail š”ā |

In the European press there seems to be a consensus that this was reckless/borderline criminal and that is not the first time for him. Also quite a bit of complaining about the stupidity of having a downhill sprint finish, they say they were going at 80 km/hour. Lots of blame to go around, and two people in a coma. Many of the riders said that they have complained about this finish in the past and nothing happened, really makes you question whether the organizers care about the ridersā safety at all.
