Huh?? I didn't post any 'injury porn' brah. So my statement that the guy should have to contemplate the outcome of his reckless, selfish and inhumane action is porn? Whatever.

This isn't boxing with padded gloves for those who made the comparison, more like formula 1 with virtually no protective measures. It's inhumane.

See short track speed skating cushioning barrier or air walls commonly used in rollerblading, might need to be slightly higher but certainly a much better solution than crowd control barrier.

Exactly, the riders are what make the sport, not the sad old corrupt European bureaucracy.

It wasn’t a regular curb- it was super deep almost like a small wall.

And the end result is Fabio Jakobsen's going to come out of this looking like Lon Chaney in Phantom of the Opera, and (I'm assuming) not racing a bike again, all for the kind of stuff any other pro sports league would consider de rigeur for keeping their show ponies safe.

The lengths the NBA went to after Paul George broke his leg on a camera stand during USA Basketball competition just to make sure that didn't happen again was night and day compared to this.

It´s a 19th century road through the woods. Deeply off cambered most of the way. Slippery. Poor visibility on all cornering. Steep and fast.

Sachs analogy to boxing hits it because it seems organizers wellcome danger and blood in some kind of old school stupid machismo. Blood being the ultimate entertainment.

Couldn't they take a page from NASCAR's book and do something like the safer barriers? Material that gives and actually absorbs a little of the impact and is softer than metal or hard plastic. Could also have them lock together at installation so they don't fly apart, maybe?

With all the design and material technology available today, there's no reason barriers could not be made much safer
than what we have currently, which is not safe for anyone.

Absolutely no reason these crappy barriers should still be in use. No reason at all. Period. UCI and race promoters/owners need to wake up.

It's to channel the 'river' that the road becomes when the rains come.
