The newer KICKR models had two problems, the first being the key and keyway on the lower pulley. Wahoo sent out a repair kit for home mechanics or shops to use. Failing that, users could send them back. The second issue was an ungrounded power supply that would allow a static charge to damage the circuit card resulting in no speed display. In that situation, Wahoo would send a new unit and power supply and the owner would ship the broken one back to Wahoo. I had both happen to me and the replacement sent after the electronics failure had the pulley issue which I corrected with their kit.

All the above means that Wahoo had quite a few returned units that could be refurbished. Each of the above problems had an identified cause which could be corrected or repaired with replacement parts. I'd buy one.

I am hoping that now that they have been on the market for well over a year, Wahoo has figured out the issues and hopefully corrected it on these refurbished units, but if someone disagrees please post up, I can still cancel the order before it ships.

I bet you will be just fine...you can find some whining about every smart trainer on some level on line or preferences etc ...700 bucks is a steal on that model...I am still using my 2014 model and its been great...still is...and should there be any problems I bet wahoo will be perfectly fine via warranty...I doubt that you will ever need it...everyone has an opinion via everything here about the slightest stuff...you will be fine with a refurbished kickr...solid deal!

I went through three Kickr’s before finally saying no mas. The first I did the repair myself but it didn’t solve the problem. Then two more replacements with the same noise problem. I was so annoyed that I asked for a refund and they gave it to me. I bought a Tacx Neo instead. Their customer service was great. I don’t know if I was receiving new or refurbished units but couldn’t comprehend how they could repeatedly send faulty units to customers. The TrainerRoad forum had lots of other users going through the same thing. But I would hope by now, they’ve identified all the bad ones and have refurbished and tested to ensure they work properly. All of the units I had worked perfectly out of the box but developed ever worsening noise issues after several weeks of use.

Not working at all isn't "the slightest stuff". Wahoo was very good about their warranty because they knew their product had problems. When I reported that the replacement unit (from the failed circuit card) did not have the pulley issue repaired before sending out, they overnighted the repair kit. The KICKR is a good product but their engineering and quality control needs some work.

25mm GP5000 clincher for $32.86. Can't beat this.... If you need Campy cables they have it on sale too for $11. If you get a twin pack tires and a cable set you will get all of them with free shipping.

Only if you ride 25mm, other sizes still a better deal at BTD, I am not a fat tire guy, most roads are paved and maintained in BC.
