Church of the Winding Path, Late Service

I used to work the afternoon/evening shift on Sundays so I seldom got to ride then. My favorite time of the week to ride was Sunday morning because of the lack of traffic but now that I'm retired and free to ride anytime on Sunday, I think I may actually enjoy Sunday late afternoon to evening more than the morning. It was a beautiful time to be out riding yesterday.

Early in my ride, I watched as a muffler fell from an older van traveling north on I-35W and came to a smoldering halt in the grass alongside the freeway. I called 911 to let them know out of fear that it would cause a grass fire.

Any corn left still standing is cow corn and will be used to feed cows and other animals. I love the golden tones that have recently taken over the fields of green.

There's Color in the Trees!

The cooler temps are a welcome relief from the oppressive heat and humidity of just a couple weeks ago, plus the ever-increasing autumn colors are a bonus. This is such a great time of the year to ride in the Midwest!

River Bottoms Saturday

Nearly all of my riding these past few months has been on my gravel bike so it was a nice change of pace yesterday to pump up the tires on my fatty and take it down to the river bottoms.

Monarch Singletrack!

There's a shiny new object in the Minneapolis metro area for mountain bikers: Monarch Singletrack Trail in Victoria with more than 10 miles of trails. It's an awesome addition to our growing assortment of trails to choose from. It's a 40 minute drive for me from my home in Lakeville but well worth it.

"There's a fine line between fartin' and shartin' and I've been rolling the dice all day." Haha!

What an awesome looking trail - a little too flat perhaps but for that distance, I'm sure they didn't mind. The crushed limestone surface looked about as good as it gets for gravel. Thanks for sharing.

Singletrack Saturday!

I made it back to the newly opened singletrack west of the Minneapolis metro yesterday morning to meet a friend. We had to use the overflow parking as the lot was full by 8:45. The trail is in its first week of operation so there's a lot of interest in it from the MTB community. But for all the traffic in the lot, the trail absorbs them nicely.

Autumn Has Arrived

The wind machine was finally dialed back but in its place was left an autumn chill. I had to add an extra layer along with full-finger gloves and booties but it was still a beautiful day to be on a bike.

Monarch Singletrack

I met Reid at Monarch Singletrack for another Saturday morning romp through the trails. He had me working pretty hard on my fatty compared to his Salsa 29er and his 24 years of youth on me. I smiled and suggested he ride his fatty next time but then I had an even better idea: I need a 29er of my own! Explicit language at the 1:04 mark.

Saturday Afternoon Along the Minnesota River Bottoms

The river bottoms have seen their share of flooding over the last several years but they're in fantastic shape now. It's nice to be able to ride them regularly again. They're one of my happy places!

Saturday Along The Minnesota River

I'm fairly certain this is the last weekend with summer-like temps in the Minneapolis area. The river bottoms are as good as they get! Lots of people out there but I was slowed very little.
