The OP raised it as a warranty issue "The warranty guy I talked to at Enve was nice enough" so why are you so surprised the thread is about warranties?

OP bought secondhand goods that didn't satisfy him but misdirected his dissatisfaction on the wrong party and then for some reason bought it here. I personally think the rims have been cranked up with over inflation to try and get tires to seat. Maybe not the OP but like the warranty guy said, it happens.

Defective product under normal tire pressure? Well if you have a warrantied product it's not a problem.

like the Romans said millennia ago caveat emptor so no, it's not a sign of the times, more a sign of the way things work.
