Hell if it beeped every time a car going 50 mph got within 18" of me it would be going many times each ride. No, I'm not exaggerating.

Definitely getting hit from behind as greatest fear. I said I feel "fairly safe" or whatever the middle response was.
While it may be nice to know when a car is approaching, assuming you cant already hear it, I'm not sure a beeping device or even the varia radar enhances safety.

The obvious question to me is this: If so many cyclists answer "being hit from behind" is the greatest fear, (same answer I gave) then why do so few use mirrors? (I don't use one either) Is it purely due to the "negative geek factor" or are there other reasons?

That's how I answered and a bit embarrassed to say that the geek factor is probably 75% of the reason why. However as I get older and more in love with my grandchidren...I'm giving it serious consideration. It is weird that the advice I give is not always the advice I take.

The same reasons NBA players don't shoot free throws like this. Sad but true.

I do wear a mirror. I wear other stuff to look cool, but the geekiness of the mirror doesn't bother me. FWIW, the mirror is not the be-all end-all. It helps, but it doesn't cover all situations. Eyes, ears and mind on what you're doing is still required. Too many drivers don't so that so we have to.

Yea and shooting underhand he made 89% of his free throws. Heck, MJ only made 83%.

No, I didn't know those stats off the top of my head.

Yes, I do wear a mirror but only about 20% of the time.
