As much as I like cool cars, and I'm sure the performance on those is through the roof, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and IMO several the cars in those pics are downright not pleasing to look at.

There was definitely a Flachbau option from the factory, through the Sonderwunschprogramm, but not until well into the 80's.

Aftermarket conversions (perhaps some even dealer-installed?) outnumber them 10:1, at least.
