Good question -

There is zero difference in strength or stiffness when comparing fillets and lugs. It mostly boils down to the look....some love the more ornate look of lugs and some prefer the organic seamless appearance of fillets.

Fillets do have an advantage at times...they can be used to connect any size tube at any angle so they can free up the design a bit if you would be best served by angles not accommodated by lugs.

In the end both types of joints will ride the same and last a lifetime so you can't lose.

wireless really looks great, not the components themselves necessarily, but the fact that there is less to detract from the sophisticated elegance and simplicity of your frame. dream bike (but 2x for me please )

I like this terminology. I have contemplated a Kirk MRB so hard, it's almost real.

A painted bike for a change - after so much raw stainless it's fun to see some bright and crisp paint from Joe Bell.

This one uses a mid-reach rim brake and has room for at least a 32 mm tire and it's headed to the west coast. I think the fender mounts might come in handy given the weather there this spring.

Definitely a unique color combo, but I like it. Do you do many FD brazed-on mounts?

Thanks.

I used to give nearly all bikes a FD braze-on but it's now less common. When almost every road bike used the same size rings one could be sure that there would be enough vertical adjustment...but now ring sizes vary by a huge amount so clamp-on is a more safe way to go.

But if the rider know for sure what ring sizes will be used a FD mount is a clean way to go.

I was lucky enough to see that frame and matching stem at the NAHBS in SLC years ago! It was amazing, won best of show if I remember correctly. Also had the pleasure of chatting with Dave and learning more about him. I’ve always wanted a Kirk since then and am fortunate enough now to be in the queue. Excited to see what this might be!
