Wilderness Trail Bikes hub

I'm overhauling a friend's 90's GT MTB.
Wheels were in rough shape but I was surprised how smooth the hubs were spinning. They're a bit different looking and at first glance I thought I saw a spoke head throw the body but realized it must be a grease port. Never seen one like this before.

Anyone know much about them?

Suntour xc pro(or expert?) grease guard hub. That's a zerk fitting for regreasing, pushes the dirty grease out through the flange IIRC. Great stuff from BITD

Grease guard was a decent system but injecting new grease into the unit doesn't always flush out the old grim. You'll need to disassemble the hub periodically to check and clean the bearings. I used both the WTB and Suntour hubs and bottom brackets for winter riding back in the day. The hubs, with the exception of the LX level Momentums, performed very well and lasted several winters.

the Norcal guys who build up WTB Phoenix's or "phoenii" seem to prefer the WTB Classic hubs . You can see a pair of them here: https://www.steelfightsback.com/wtb/
