Need new helmet
I'm due for a new helmet.
I wear a 7 3/8 U.S. (large) hat size Currently have a Bontrager cell wave that I don't love, and an older Louis Garneau that is pretty comfy, but well out of date. Any suggestions? Thanks much, By |

I have Abus and Met helmets right now and love em.
Neither are big brands in the US, but I'm glad I took a shot and tried both because they are super light and comfortable. Abus Stormchaser Met Rivale mips FWIW the Abus Viantor helmets are under $50 at bike closet right now. https://bikecloset.com/product/abus-...bute_pa_size=m |

I got a POC because I wanted a neon orange helmet that you can’t miss.
It’s surprisingly comfortable. |

I start here: https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/bicyc...t-ratings.html and work my way down the list until I find one that fits my head and serves my purpose. I choose based on safety, cost secondary. I only have one brain, not that I use it well. 😂

I've got one of these coming Friday....
Seems like a good deal, Giro helmets ususally fit me well....throw in a tire tube or something cheap and it ships free. https://www.excelsports.com/giro-synthe-mips-ii-helmet SPP |

Helmets are like shoes; head shapes are like feet. If you don't try on a helmet beforehand, you're rolling the dice. I think the Specialized Propero 4 is the best helmet I've ever worn. I work with someone who thinks it's a skull vice.

Do you know your head shape? Round vs oval makes a difference. My head is oval-shaped, and I tried a bunch of great helmets that just didn’t fit, until I found Met. I love the fit, and I have a Manta and a Trenta. For round(ish) heads the Kask and Giro are better fits.

You really should try to get to a shop or two and try on a few.
For my head the Lazers fit well, I have 2 Lazers a road and MTB and like them both allot. I also wanted a bright orange one for commuting so I picked up a Smith and I like that one as well. |

Been going through the pains of finding a new helmet. Previously had Lazer and Bontrager. Got an Oakley Aro5 Race last year that needed to be fiddled with to finally fit well. This year went through a few mail ordered helmets that didnt fit right and finally tried a Kask Protone on at a store and ordered one.

I have a MET Trenta MIPS, the best helmet I have had.
Before that were several Bell helmets. |

A negative data point.. I have a Smith MTB helmet. Not sure if their road helmets would drive me nuts the same way but I can't wait to replace it.
- Visor is always crooked no matter what I do - Helmet doesn't stay put while riding on hard terrain even if I crank it down till I see stars - It somehow interferes with glasses as you turn your head, for Rx glasses this inteferes with your vision like crazy. Add in the helmet refusing to stay put on technical terrain and it's making my vision go fuzzy right when I need to see the trail best. Too bad cause it has a lot of coverage and feels like a very protective helmet with the Koroyd + MIPs. I don't know if it's maybe the MIPS causing the issues with it hitting glasses and refusing to sit still. Maybe, but I have had a lot of MIPS helmets without this issue. I've had a lot of helmets. Definitely been quite happy with Lazer, Kask, Specialized, and Bontrager. I need to try POC at some point but I'm not sure I've run into them to try on. I have the previous gen Bontrager Velocis that I got dirt cheap when they made the new one. That's a great helmet, the markdown was something crazy like $300 -> $130. |
