Some great/tempting deals popping up on the "old" Aspero at the moment. Looks pretty much identical and is still an awesome go anywhere gravel frame.

Looks like the SC is the previous generation frame.

I scored one of the GRX 610's for a killer deal back in February. With a small wheel upgrade and GRX 810 cranks for the bigger gearing. I'm all in on this bike for less than 3k and it is pretty fantastic. My size 56 weighs right around 20 lbs which is acceptable.... It's kinda become my default bike which surprises me, because I almost went out of my way to avoid riding my previous gravel bike on road. I currently have some GK 35 slicks and it rides really well on road. I bought it primarily as a commuter bike, as there is not a ton of worth while gravel near where I live, but the 2 vacations I've taken this year where it saw gravel, it did excellent... despite being on slicks for one of them (should have put on the knobby's in hindsight).

FWIW the 1st gen frame geometry is almost the same as the R5 but fit bigger tires. I believe the 2nd gen has a slightly more sloping TT, and a longer wheelbase along with fitment for wider tires than gen 1, UDH and internal routing.

If you're considering one, really pay attention to the stack/reach figure as its kinda long... I'm 6'2" and am on a 56... all my other bikes are 58ish

Frame size numbers should never be used to pick a frame these days. Use stack and reach. The smallest size is nearly identical to the Yoeleo frames that I bought 2 years ago - 505mm stack and 370mm reach. Of course Cervelo recommends the next size larger for my height. Then the additional reach would require a 100mm stem, just like my last Colnago frames.

Not sure what the difference btw the original Aspero and Aspera SC was, if any other than color. Both are steeper w/less tire clearance than the current gen.

FWIW, I loved my original Aspero and, if I had to only have one road-gravel bike, I likely would have picked another one up from Excel when they were liquidating them for like 1200. In my mind, it really nicely splits gravel/road and is noticeably 'aero' at speed.

If you spring for one just make sure you have the brake mounts faced.

Yeah, I noticed it's long for sure. Which suits me actually.

Did you try a 58, or just go by the numbers? What stem length did you settle on?

Thanks

Do you know what the clearance differences are offhand?

What is the deal with the flip chip in the fork as it pertains to front caliper. If you flip do you need special adapter?

I did not try a 58, I just compared the numbers on geometrygeeks and measurements between my supersix and speedvagen.

I've still got the 90mm stem that came with it... I could probably use a 100MM ... It's been pretty comfy out the box and haven't had a ton of time to experiment.

I believe the only difference between the old gen regular Aspero and the 'SC' are that the SC had an alloy post and the regular included a carbon one.

The original will fit a 650b47 or 700x40 maybe 700x42. Not sure about the new model.

Ah yes, that's right. I considered it for a while when excel was clearing them out but it didn't buy me much real estate over the TCR I have.
